WHAT WE DO

Our Programs

Empowering refugees and host communities through four core programs across the Great Lakes region

Founded in 2019 and led by refugees, Spirit of Peace and Solidarity (SPS) designs and implements programs that respond directly to the needs of displaced and at-risk populations. We believe refugees are not passive beneficiaries — they are active agents of change.

Education and Vocational Training
Program 01
EDUCATION & VOCATIONAL TRAINING

Education and Vocational Training

Empowering Minds, Transforming Lives

At SPS, we believe that education is not a privilege — it is a fundamental right and a powerful tool for change. For refugees and members of the host community, access to quality education and vocational training is a critical bridge to dignity, self-reliance, and long-term peace.

Through this program, SPS is committed to breaking the cycle of dependency by equipping individuals — especially youth and women — with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to take control of their futures. We offer inclusive, practical, and transformative learning opportunities that respond to real needs in our communities.

This program is built on the belief that displaced people are not a burden but a resource. With the right support, refugees and marginalized youth can become the innovators, educators, and leaders who will shape a better future for all.

Health and Wellness
Program 02
HEALTH & WELLNESS

Health and Wellness

We believe that access to healthcare is a fundamental human right. Yet in many remote and underserved areas — especially where refugees and rural populations live — this right remains far out of reach. Our Health and Wellness program was born from the urgent need to close this gap.

In partnership with local governments and the Ministry of Health, SPS manages both first and second generation health posts in hard-to-reach communities. Our mission is bold and life-saving: to reduce infant mortality, protect mothers, and ensure that no one dies simply because they could not reach a health facility in time.

Our Approach

Community-Centered Delivery: We bring services directly to the people in remote and underserved areas, prioritizing refugees and host communities equally.
Government Collaboration: We work hand in hand with local authorities and the Ministry of Health to align with national health strategies and ensure sustainability.
Health Equity Focus: We prioritize access for pregnant women, children, and other at-risk groups who face barriers to traditional healthcare.
Preventive and Curative Services: From vaccinations and prenatal care to health education and chronic disease management, our services are comprehensive.
Capacity Building: We train and support local health workers to build strong, resilient health systems that can serve communities in the long term.
Empathy in Action: Every intervention is grounded in compassion, aiming not only to treat illness but also to restore dignity and hope.
Economic Empowerment
Program 03
ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

Economic Empowerment

True empowerment begins with economic independence. In communities affected by displacement and poverty, the ability to earn a stable income is a pathway to dignity, resilience, and lasting peace. Our Economic Empowerment Program is designed to unleash the entrepreneurial potential of refugees and host community members — especially women and youth.

We equip participants with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to build self-sustaining businesses and livelihoods. We don't just offer training — we walk the journey with our beneficiaries from the first spark of an idea to a thriving, market-ready business.

Our Approach

Facilitate access to financial resources, including micro-grants, small loans, and connections to community-based savings groups.
Deliver entrepreneurship and financial literacy training, tailored to the local context, enabling participants to turn ideas into viable business models.
Provide ongoing mentorship and coaching, ensuring that each entrepreneur receives personalized guidance and strategic advice for long-term success.
Link businesses to markets, by supporting product standardization, branding, and value chain development ensuring products are competitive on the open market.
Foster cooperatives and group businesses, encouraging peer-to-peer learning, shared investment, and community-driven sustainability.

Our vision is not just to reduce poverty — it is to create a generation of confident, self-reliant entrepreneurs who break the cycle of dependency and lead change from within.

Social Integration and Peace-building
Program 04
SOCIAL INTEGRATION, PEACE-BUILDING & HUMANITARIAN AID

Social Integration, Peace-building and Humanitarian Aid

SPS promotes social cohesion through dialogue, cultural exchange, and faith-based peace initiatives. We also respond to humanitarian emergencies by providing temporary support to displaced families and advocating for protection, family reunification, and durable solutions.

Founded and led by refugees, SPS is uniquely positioned to address the root causes of division and displacement. We understand, from lived experience, how conflict, discrimination, and exclusion have torn apart communities. Too often, unemployed and marginalized youth are exploited by those who propagate violence and hatred. That is why we stand for peace — not just as a slogan, but as an active, daily commitment.

Our Approach

Community events that celebrate diversity and foster togetherness across refugee and host communities.
Intergenerational and interfaith dialogue sessions that open minds and break down harmful ideologies.
Cultural exchange programs that create opportunities for shared experiences, learning, and trust-building.
Advocacy for the rights and protection of displaced people, including family reunification and resettlement.
Protection of unaccompanied children and other vulnerable groups in emergency situations.
